One week ago the team behind Open Melody released v1.0.2, but I've just noticed this.

In summary, this release is announced as:

This is a critical maintenance update as it includes all security-related changes released in Movable Type 4.361 (#944) and v4.37 (#973)

Added new configuration directives, DeniedAssetFileExtensions and AssetFileExtensions, which allow administrators precise control over the types of files users can upload (#946)

The Open Melody crew is working on making this new publishing platform better.

Among the areas that are addressed at this stage, Byrne Reese mentioned:

  • The modularization of Melody's code base continues as we continue our efforts to break its monstrous code base into more manageable components. In the future this will allow to more rapidly iterate on improvements we want to make, and allow users to dramatically reduce the size of their installation be eliminating components they do not need or use.

  • The project to eliminate the highly proprietary javascript framework called TypeCore, and replace it with jQuery is underway. We are a release or two from completely severing the tie, but it good to see work started.

  • The Atom Publishing Protocol implementation has been upgraded to be more standard compliant and has been tested to work with the popular blogging client Mars Edit.

  • We continue to back port popular features from MT5 into Melody, like the awesome listing framework developed by Six Apart. We have even made and shared back improvements to their implementation by overhauling the system's javascript.

  • We have dramatically enhanced dashboard widget management and made numerous other improvements to the UI's polish.

Byrne concluded the release announcement saying:

Curious to see Open Melody v1.0.1 at work? Look no further!
After a long journey, the folks behind the open melody initiative which was meant to continue the movable type v4.x open source project have launched their project first version.

There have been a series of releases so far, but this one is meant to be the final version of the 1.x series. I wish open melody to have at least 5 generations for this publishing platform, just like movable type.

If you are looking for themes, you should know that there are a few available at:

It's always a pleasure to announce a new release ready for online evaluation.

About one hour ago the wonderful crew behind open melody announced that v1.0 Release Candidate 1 is ready.

This version introduces a broad range of bug fixed and improvements from the previous version, open melody v1.0 beta 3.

Among the improvements, I would like to mention the jQuery upgrade to v1.5, the upgrade of Config Assistant to the latest version, comment performance optimization.

The application has also been cleaned up from some dead features, such as the Vox authentification method.

Are you ready to evaluate this release?

I must say that I while I would love to see Six Apart continue to work also on the v4.x series, I really believe that open melody is an excellent product meant to continue the v4.x development, this time not by Six Apart, but from people from the movable type community.

The crew involved in Open Melody did a fantastic work so far.

Today they've launched beta 3, meant to be the last beta version. Go ahead and evaluate it, then contribute to the community with your comments and/or bug reports.

You may like to know also that RC1 is scheduled to be ready next week and shortly after v1.0, that we are all looking forward for some time.

Happy Testing!

It's a pleasure for me to announce that Melody v1.0-beta 1 has been launched a few hours ago and it is now available for evaluation here!

This version is known also as v0.9.27 and what is very nice of it is the fact that it opens the road for v1.0.

I must confess that I tend to like the new admin interface which changes significantly.

Playing a little bit with the DePoClean theme I've enjoyed the theme settings and some other features that have been integrated in this product.

Take a look at it and let me know what you think!
